Denver Classic,
Denver CO
New
Look for a Denver
Classic
Past and present
visions merge in a
Denver condominium
overlooking Cheesman
Park, capturing
views of the city
skyline and Front
Range Continental
Divide. This
well-lived in
condominium belongs
to a couple who
loves to travel the
world. With
artifacts,
sculpture, and
paintings from every
corner of the world,
their home emulates
the places that have
touched their
hearts.
My clients contacted
me to come over and
provide a
consultation on
improving their main
living space which
is an open room
overlooking a
panoramic scenery.
Initially, they were
thinking about
buying rugs in
Turkey and maybe
getting a new sofa.
The existing
furniture was a
collection of
blended families and
repurposed office
furniture. The worn
red Turkish rugs
covered the slate
flooring. The walls
were painted a flesh
tone with accent
walls of burnt
orange.
On one end of the
room a conference
table serving as a
dining table was
anchored with a
makeshift built in
bookcase filled with
books. On the other
end of the room was
the white faux
plaster fireplace
surrounded with
miscellaneous art.
The congruity of
their home was lost
in the confusion.
With an open mind
and a generous
willingness to take
my suggestions, we
took everything off
the walls, moved all
the furniture out of
the room and began
with evaluating the
flooring and walls.
The floors were not
going to be an
option to change, so
we agreed to clean
and reseal the
slate, bringing back
its original luster.
The walls were the
next point of
discussion. I
presented them with
my palette selection
that would highlight
their art and soften
the room utilizing a
metallic glaze
finish over the
walls. In addition,
I recommended
redoing the
fireplace to create
a faux marble finish
in bronze and taupe
tones, complimenting
and tying the color
palette of the room
together.
Listening closely to
their life style,
and budget
restrictions in
mind, I selected
furnishings that
could be
incorporated with
other meaning family
pieces of furniture.
The final selection
included a Barbara
Barry sectional
sofa, a Joseph Jeup
chair and ottoman
and three
complimentary
Turkish rugs
-
one
for the entry, one
for the sitting area
and one for the
dining area.
With plans to go
abroad, my clients
handed me the keys
and took off for
Europe, with the
expectation the
remodel project
would be completely,
the furnishing would
be delivered and the
art and artifacts
would be re-hung in
a manner that would
tell a story and
create focal points
of conversation
without overwhelming
their guests.
Stepping off the
elevator into their
home and seeing for
the first time the
finished result of
our collaborative
effort produced
nothing short of
pure pleasure
- a
truly happy
homecoming for this
Denver couple

Purple Aster,
Scottsdale, AZ
Touched by the
Desert Wow
In Scottsdale,
Arizona, this Desert
Mountain home opens
to the Desert Wow,
endless views of the
city lights,
majestic mountains,
distant golf courses
and breathtaking
sunrises and
sunsets. We named
her Purple Aster.
This project became
a spiritual
awakening in its
framing stage with
the beginnings of a
blank canvas ready
to reveal its true
essence. Unlike so
many of the homes in
this majestic
setting, Purple
Aster evolved from
the diamond in the
rough to a living
organic contemporary
ranch home where the
demarcation between
the inside and
outside blurred.
Over 7,000 square
feet inside and
another 10,000 feet
of outside living
space
"living
at the top"
developed into a
serene and peaceful
sanctuary.
This was the dream
project and
completing within
one year start to
finish. The
craftsmanship and
vision of the
homebuilding team
was unprecedented.
The color palette
chosen revealed and
complimented those
of the surrounding
desert
-
vibrant colors of
lavender, rose,
yellow and varying
shades of green. The
rich textures of the
stone selections;
mosaics, onyx,
marble, slate and
limestone -
elemental, sensuous
and simple arose to
create an organic
theme throughout
this home. Stone
rugs of trapezoids
and triangles were
designed to break up
the extensive square
footage of flooring.
Clay walls soft to
the touch and
ecological embraced
the interior
utilizing the color
palette of the
desert. The lighting
fixtures along with
a state of the art
lighting system
created a heaven
like ambiance unlike
no other.
The kitchen, the
heart of the home,
looks over the
family room with
those expansive
views of the Valley
of the Sun. We
equipped the kitchen
with the best energy
rated appliances,
including Wolf, Asko,
and Sub-Zero, an
organic copper
farmers sink,
stainless steel pot
filler, cherry -mahogany-finished
alder cabinets and
Juparana El Dorado
granite counters.
Outside the master
suite and just
beyond the putting
green lies the
"guardian"
river water feature
makes its way
surrounding Purple
Aster. Two spas, a
negative edge pool,
fire pit and outdoor
kitchen complete the
outdoor living
experience.
And the furnishings,
simple but rich,
full of family
memories, the
commissioned indoor
water feature along
with the interior
plantscaping of
grown cactus bring
about the final
touches creating The
Native American
integration of air,
earth, fire, and
water.

The Hills at
Cherry Creek
Residence,
Denver CO
The Best of
Everything
My homeowners in the
beautifully
established
neighborhood of the
Hills at Cherry
Creek were ready to
make a move.
Retired, with grown
children, their
hearts ached for the
familiar
surroundings on New
Mexico. Knowing
their home was
highly personalized
to suit their taste
of the southwest,
they invited me to
take on the
challenge of making
the necessary
changes to their
home appealing to a
potential buyer.
It was tough love
from the very
beginning. And with
an open mind, my
wonderful clients
said, "Make
the decisions."
With
that instruction,
the magic was put
into motion. A fresh
palette was
determined for the
entire house. The
old flooring and
carpeting was
replaced with new,
the master bathroom
and kitchen were
remodeled and
updated and last but
not least, new
lighting was
installed to show
off the sparkle
throughout the home.
The result, this
home took on a
natural flow. There
were no more chopped
up areas. Instead
this home's
continuity was not
only inviting but
created a very
comfortable living
space for a growing
family.
The Kitchen
was old and tired
with worn out
appliances,
counters, chipped
flooring and dated
wall paper. We
re-plastered the
walls, added a soft,
clean color palette.
The porcelain
flooring took on a
leather texture.
This flooring was
carried out
throughout the entry
and hallway for
dramatic effect. The
granite counters,
new appliances, and
new lighting
transformed the
kitchen to a family
gathering spot that
not only led into
the family room,
dining room, but
opened to a
beautiful covered
patio overlooking
the Cherry Creek
Reservoir.
The Master Bathroom
was a dated
testimony of a room
frozen in time with
a fiberglass tub and
decking, 1970 's
lighting, and a tiny
shower. This room
needed to be gutted
and that's
what we did. We
moved and doubled
the size of the new
shower and created a
linen closet in the
space where the old
shower once lived.
Two glass walls of
the shower were
built into the
design, allowing for
light to flood into
the dressing area.
We added a soaking
tub, new flooring,
counters, and new
lighting. In
addition, we took
out the existing
window and shutters
and replaced with
block glass for
privacy and natural
lighting.
Entry Lighting
was an important
element for "first
impressions."
The
original chandelier
was a mid century
modern that didn't't
belong in this home.
Instead, our
selection of a black
iron hanging cage,
reminiscent of
lighting from a
European castle was
chosen.
At the conclusion of
our remodel, our
homeowners were so
pleased they decided
to paint the
exterior of their
home. We made our
paint selections
changing out the
existing off white
siding and magenta
front entrance and
replaced with Ralph
Lauren 's
Thoroughbred
collection of Kauai
Jungle for the
siding and trim and
Traditional for the
front door and
entrance completing
this project both
inside and out
-
the result is
timeless.

Urban Style Ranch,
Denver, CO
Nestled
amongst the mature
trees on nearly a
half acre of
property, this 1970 's
brick ranch home was
yet to realize its
full potential.
Walking into this
beautiful country
setting was
reminiscent of
taking a step back
in time. Both inside
and out, a mixture
of styles
proliferated
throughout. The
sinking front porch
with the broken
intercom and double
glass front doors,
the faux painted
entrance way with
multiple types of
lighting certainly
started things off
with first
impressions. If that
wasn't
enough, the hot tub
off the kitchen and
back patio was
definitely a site
for sore eyes! With
weather dictating
our starting point,
we began
transforming this
hidden gem into an
upscale western
urban ranch suitable
for entertaining
large parties.
Walls were removed
to open the living
spaces and
resurfaced in
plaster and clay
materials. Doorway
entrances were
widened, flooring
was replaced, new
alder doors and trim
replaced the white
worn 8 panel doors
and 2 inch trim.
Wood flooring was
installed throughout
the first floor.
Slate and mosaic
stone transformed
the stairway to the
lower level. The
lower level, once a
dingy basement,
became the media
room and guest
suite. Wheat colored
wool carpet, Tuscan
walls and a state of
the art media system
turned this living
space into an
inviting cocoon.
With the onset of
spring, it was time
to tackle the
outside aspects of
this property.
Starting with the
front entrance and
driveway, all was
replaced including
new landscaping and
fencing. Brick
pavers were selected
for the driveway,
walkway and front
porch. Rose bushes
and ornamental trees
followed the pathway
all the way to the
new front alder
door. New outdoor
lighting, a fresh
coat of paint for
the trim, new
gutters and an added
bonus of a radiant
heat system for the
drive and walkway
made this home a
country charm. The
front porch and its
comfortable seating
became a secondary
oasis for the owners
to enjoy listening
to the sounds coming
from the nearby
Little Dry Creek.
The backyard
represented a major
undertaking.
Removing the
existing flagstone
back porch, the
glassed in hot tub
and pea gravel and
weeds throughout was
no small
undertaking. With
the demolition work
behind us, the fun
was about to begin.
Continuing the theme
of creating a space
to enjoy
entertaining, yet
preserving the
country setting with
its mature Linen and
Ash trees, we
designed a 1300 foot
round seated wall
Trex deck. Moss
rocking was stacked
around each of the
Linden trees to
create flower beds,
and a tree orchard
lined with flagstone
and thyme pathway
was designed for the
north side of the
home. Flower beds
followed their way
around the perimeter
of the home. A
plethora of
fragrances, wildlife
and natural beauty
in this magical
setting made for
enjoying any day of
the year in this
private and intimate
Colorado home.
